Barbie Star Will Ferrell has nothing but excitement for the Margot Robbie-directed live-action film.
speaking to The Wall Street Journal, the acclaimed actor and comedian discussed some of his upcoming projects, including the adaptation of director Greta Gerwig’s iconic toy doll. “It’s a loving tribute to the brand and, at the same time, it couldn’t be more satirical,” Ferrell said. “Just an amazing commentary on the male patriarchy and women in society and why Barbie is criticized and yet why every girl still wants to play with Barbie. Wow, when I read this I was like, ‘This is fantastic. ‘”.
Ferrell isn’t the only Hollywood heavyweight to appear in Barbie as the film has attracted an impressive cast. Beyond Robbie as the main character, the film also features Ryan Gosling as a version of Ken alongside Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa. Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, and Michael Cera will also star, but very little information has been shared about their respective roles so far.
Despite creating enthusiasm for Barbie, the film’s production has been plagued by countless leaks. Most notably, several of the film’s wardrobe choices were revealed when photographers snapped pictures of Robbie and Gosling performing various scenes together. “I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” Robbie said. “It looks like we’re laughing and having fun, but we’re dying inside. Dying. I thought, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”
Robbie hasn’t shy away from sharing his candid thoughts on her. Barbie movie. The actor has previously addressed concerns that the film would fall victim to the toy brand’s notoriety, as many groups have labeled Barbie figures as delivering harmful messages about children’s body image. “He Comes with a lot of baggage!” Robby explained. “But with that comes a lot of exciting ways to approach it. People usually hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be like,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, Well, maybe I don’t…'”

At the time of writing, details about the film’s story are still largely unknown.
