Tom King Opens Up About His and Ava DuVernay’s Canceled DC Film


New Gods co-writer Tom King discusses the canceled film and reveals if the project could ever be revived under DC’s new leadership.


Comic book writer Tom King has revealed if he thinks it got canceled new gods The script he co-wrote with Ava DuVernay could be revived now that there’s new leadership at DC Studios.


“Oh, I mean, anything is possible,” he said in an exclusive interview with CBR. “I love that script. I loved working with Ava. It was an absolute joy. She’s a great storyteller. You absolutely never know. I don’t want to close any doors. Right now, I’m incredibly busy. I have so much on my plate. It would be difficult imagine taking a full movie right now. But that script has never been read. The movie was taken off the docket because it conflicted with the plans they had at the time. So who knows? When new plans come up, maybe they come up new opportunities. That’s pure speculation. I have absolutely no knowledge. I would love to work with Ava again. It was a pleasure.”

The duo is currently finalizing a ten-year plan for Warner Bros. and the DCU that will “tell one big overarching story…through movies, TV games, live action and animation.” Gunn has also asked fans which DC characters they want to see on the big screen, which means King and DuVernay new gods The movie could exist for as long as fans want it to.

The next DC movie to be released in theaters will be Shazam! fury of the gods on March 17, 2023.
