Titans Makes Beast Boy a Better (Yet Grosser) Version of Ant-Man

The following contains spoilers for Titans Season 1, Episode 5, “Inside Man,” now streaming on HBO Max.

One of the most intriguing aspects of titans Season 4 is how the show is giving the central cast more time in the spotlight with their individual arcs. Beast Boy is one of them, fighting the internal turmoil in his mind with the invasion of the Reds, while he struggles with the idea that he could be a destroyer. He has led Raven, in her depowered state, to stay close to Gar, further building her deep bond.

However, even though his mind is fractured, Gar is showing immense maturity, holding it together because he knows that Mother Mayhem is getting closer to kidnapping Sebastian. This leads Gar to take a big step forward when Superboy unfortunately becomes Mayhem’s pawn. In the process, Gar becomes a subverted version of Ant-Man, and while he’s highly effective, it’s also a mission not for the squeamish.

Titans turns Beast Boy into a virus

Conner, mind controlled by the powerful Mayhem, attempts to attack his comrades at Star Labs, but luckily, he is stopped. They realize they need to purge what is essentially a blood pathogen inside of him that the Mayhem has planted thanks to Zombie Deathstroke slashing Superboy. Dick, Jinx, and the others decide that Gar might be the delivery mechanism, going in to dispel the curse, a big difference to Ant-Man donning an Iron Man suit to weaken him or crawling near someone’s orifice to punch him.

After all, a virus is something non-living, so once Gar is bonded with a magical powder Constantine taught Jinx, it changes shape and injects itself into Conner’s body in the lab. It’s a much more scientifically sound method of utilizing his ability to shrink into this microorganism than, say, Ant-Man in the “Thanus Theory” where a scientific meme conspiracy conceptualized Scott Lang experimenting by getting on the Thanos’s butt to kill him. from inside.

Titans rescues Beast Boy in a disgusting way

Fortunately, the mission is successful, but when it comes time to extract Gar, it happens in a chamber of Conner’s bodily fluids. She has emerged in the middle of a ton of slime and liquid, with her green essence spreading throughout the tank. He’s cool, at first, but by the time viewers realize what’s going on, he’s a little vomit-inducing. It gets even worse when Gar reforms and comes back to life, covered in a bunch of icky, nodding things. the Kids also, when Termite expanded into someone’s penis and sent blood and guts everywhere.

This scene, while not as graphic, is definitely one of the funniest moments on the show, as Gar enjoyed the ride, but it still turns his stomach. That said, even though the show doesn’t spend a ton of budget on CGI (showing Gar fighting the threat within), viewers’ minds fill the space and their imaginations take over as Conner bleeds to death. But this final sequence, however, is vivid and speaks for itself. This reminds fans how dirty Ant-Man would have been if he had followed through with his plan to boldly go where no Avenger has gone before.
