The Walking Dead Star Reveals Their Secret Finale Cameo

A former Walking Dead cast member confirms they made an unannounced cameo in the latest episode of AMC’s dystopian horror series.

The following contains spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 24, “Rest In Peace.”

Previous The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs recently revealed that he makes a secret cameo in the show’s finale.

Riggs confirmed the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo on Twitter, having previously teased his casting in the latest episode of AMC’s post-apocalyptic horror series “Rest in Piece” in April 2022. The actor plays a anonymous farmer in “Rest in Piece”, as his original character, Carl Grimes, was killed in the Living Dead Season 8. Since then, showrunner Angela Kang has explained in an interview with entertainment weekly that Riggs’ cameo arose from a chance visit to the set. “I had such a good time hanging out with [Riggs] on set, and it was really nice to see,” Kang said. “And then they were doing these scenes and they needed some extras, and [director] greg [Nicotero] I was like, ‘Well, do you want to do it? Get in there! Go to the back.'”

Riggs’ on-screen father, Andrew Lincoln, also stars in The Walking Dead series finale, reprising the role of Rick Grimes after leaving the show in season 9. Rick’s inclusion in “Rest in Piece” sets up the upcoming spinoff miniseries headlined by Danai Gurira’s former deputy and Michonne. The spin-off does not yet have an official title, however it will reportedly say The Walking DeadThe version of a love story and is set between the events of Season 9, Episode 5, “What Comes Next” and Season 10, Episode 13, “What We Become”.

Negan Actor Talks About The Walking Dead: Dead City

Another of AMC’s planned spin-offs is The Walking Dead: Dead City, which revolves around the exploits of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in a zombie-infested Manhattan. AMC announced dead city before the conclusion of The Walking Dead, a decision Morgan insists was a mistake. “Look, if you had seen the scene in the last episode of that lineup, imagine how much better that scene would have been if you thought Negan was going to die,” she said. “I just think the stakes are much higher.”

Morgan remains enthusiastic about the spinoff itself, however, even suggesting that The Walking Dead: dead city could allow you to reconnect with others Living Dead former students other than Cohan. “I’m happy to continue playing Negan, but I’m sad that I don’t get the opportunity to work with these people anymore, unless I do!” he said.
