The Lord of the Rings’ highly anticipated return to Moria has gone gold ahead of its release

After much anticipation from fans, Free Range Games and North Beach Games recently announced the successful completion of their cooperative survival and crafting game, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. Marking its readiness for release, the title has officially gone ‘Mithril’ (Gold) for the PC platform and will debut on PC on October 24, 2023. PS5 owners will have to wait longer, however, as the digital version and its physical counterpart have been delayed until December 5, 2023. Meanwhile, Xbox Series X|S players can expect an early 2024 release.

Previously, the game’s creators gave fans an exciting preview of their in-game Dwarf Creator. This feature allows players to create a unique dwarf character, providing several options ranging from beard styles and jewelry to voice tones and personality traits.

By immersing themselves in the game’s narrative, players will travel beyond Tolkien’s legendary writings and into the Fourth Age of Middle-earth. The plot revolves around a call to the Misty Mountains made by Lord Gimli Lockbearer, voiced by esteemed actor John Rhys-Davies. Players will group into groups of dwarves and embark on a journey to recover lost treasures from the heartland of the dwarves, Moria, or as it is historically called, Khazad-dûm or Dwarrowdelf.

The game allows players to create their custom dwarf and descend into the vast mines of Moria, either alone or with a team of online dwarves. Thanks to procedurally generated terrain, each company promises a new experience. As the challenges intensify, players will create durable armor and weapons to face and conquer various enemies, uncovering the enigmatic secrets of Moria.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return will be released on October 24, 2023 for PC, with the PS5 version launching on December 5, 2023, and the Xbox Series X|S version in early 2024.
