Weapon durability has been a part of the gameplay in Breath of the Wild, and carries over to Tears of the Kingdom as well. Aside from the Master Sword, which was basically indestructible, all weapons have innate durability that wears off the more Link uses them to hit anything. With the new Fuse mechanic, the durability stat will also change a bit in how it works on fused weapons.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom weapon durability mechanics
Weapon durability in Tears of the Kingdom works the same way as in the previous game. Different weapons have different durability points, with higher level weapons being more durable than basic ones. Every time a weapon is used (melee weapons when hitting enemies or breakables; bows when tied with arrows), their durability decreases. When it gets low enough, an alert will appear on the screen letting you know it’s about to break. Continued use of a nearly broken weapon will cause it to crack and break.
Thrown weapons will lose durability twice as fast. The hit that will cause a melee weapon to break will deal critical damage to its target.
Weapon durability with the fuse mechanism
The Fuse mechanic changes things up on how durability is applied to the fused weapon. Any compatible weapon can still be fused with another item or weapon, regardless of its durability. Once a weapon is fused with another element, it gains additional attack power on top of its durability, essentially extending the durability of the newly fused weapon.
Fused weapons with partial durability will keep their current durability as the fuse will not replenish their durability points. If the second (non-hand) item/weapon runs out of durability, it will break first, leaving the first (hand) weapon usable until it breaks.
Not all weapons can be fused together. Raw materials such as rods, branches, logs, rocks, etc. they can be fused with swords or weapons, but already fused weapons like axes or items that have been combined with Ultrahand can no longer be used for fusion (stick + ax head). ). Fused items can only be made of two basic materials/weapons. Once a fused weapon has been crafted, it can no longer be broken down into its previous basic forms.
