Tarantino Says Marvel’s Actors Aren’t Stars

Quentin Tarantino believes that the characters in the MCU are bigger than the actors who play them: “Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star.”

Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino said that Marvel characters are the only stars in movies.

In an interview with Varietythe pulp fiction The writer-director criticized Marvel Studios for ruining the aura of the movie star in Hollywood. Although he is a self-proclaimed Marvel fan at heart, he believes that audiences pay to see the superheroes of the MCU rather than the talents that bring them to life. “Part of the wonder of Hollywood is… you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they’re not movie stars. Right?” Tarantino said.

“Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think it’s been said a million times… but it’s like, you know, it’s these franchise characters. those who become a star”.

Quentin Tarantino used to love Marvel

Tarantino’s love of classic Marvel comics can be seen in his famous pop culture references, such as David Caradine’s superhero identity monologue in Kill Bill Vol. two and did uncredited rewrites for the Denzel Washington film crimson tide regarding the Silver Surfer and other Marvel references. Additionally, Tarantino was considered for a Luke Cage movie in the ’90s starring Laurence Fishburne and had expressed little interest in adapting a Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos movie for Marvel Studios. But the oversaturation of MCU movies on the big screen and Disney+ doesn’t give Tarantino the same excitement he had in his youth.

I mean, they wouldn’t be the only movies that would be made. It would be those movies among others.” films. But, you know, I’m almost 60, so yeah. No, I’m not that excited about them.”

Following the release of their 2019 hit once upon a time in hollywood, Tarantino looks to make his tenth film his industry swan song and focus on film literature and writing novels. While that final film remains a mystery, it’s clear that it won’t be a project for the MCU or DC Films. “You have to be a day laborer to do those things,” Tarantino said. “I’m not a day laborer. I’m not looking for work.”
