next season, Andor will finally explore the origins of how Cassian Andor met his beloved, always sarcastic rogue one companion droid K2SO.
speaking to collider, Andor Showrunner Tony Gilroy confirmed that the reprogrammed Imperial security droid will appear somewhere in season 2, but declined to elaborate on which story block will mark his debut. On how he intends to include K-2SO in the story, Gilroy commented, “Well, I think that’s one of the responsibilities of Part 2. Obviously, if we’re going to get into RogueWe have to deal with it.”
Prior to Andor‘s, Gilroy explained why he held off introducing K-2SO at all in Season 1. He described the droid’s inevitable friendship with Andor as “a story we can’t wait to tell,” but conceded that it’s “difficult to wear an Imperial gait.” with you and not draw all kinds of attention. It’s a difficult baggage. When we do it, we’ll do it in a spectacular way instead of presenting it and ignoring it, or presenting it or hiding it, or the bad versions that we would have been forced to do.”
Canonically, Andor and K-2SO’s first meeting was revealed in the 2017 one-shot comic. Rogue One – Cassian and K-2SO Special #1. It is not clear if those events will be reconfigured to Andor Season 2, which recently started production in London. Chronologically, Gilroy confirmed that the season 2 premiere will feature a huge jump in time, picking up a full year after the events of AndorFerrix season finale. Like Season 1, it will be divided into four blocks of three episodes, each following a year of Cassian’s life in the Rebel Alliance before Rogue One: A Star Wars Storywith the season 2 finale directly tied to its first scene from the spinoff film.
Voiced by Alan Tudyk in rogue one, K-2SO served as Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso’s escort to the planet Jedha during their search for the rebel extremist Saw Gerrera. He would later participate in the Battle of Scarif, helping both rebels locate the Death Star plans and ultimately sacrificing himself to buy time for Jyn and Cassian to transmit those schematics to the rebel fleet. Since then, Tudyk has reprized the role of him in several pieces of Star Wars means like LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars and the virtual reality experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empirethe latter of which also featured a live-action cameo from Diego Luna as Andor.
So far, Tudyk has not been officially released yet. Andor Season 2. However, one of K-2SO’s KX-series droid models appeared at the end of the Andor episode “Announcement”, which arrests Andor on trumped-up criminal charges that led to his imprisonment on Narkina 5.
