Production of Sharp’s new LCD screen hints at Nintendo’s big plans

Japanese electronics company Sharp has recently shared information that it is currently making new LCD screens for a mysterious new console.

Sharp CEO Robert Wu recently spoke on an earnings call (via Bloomberg) that the company will launch pilot LCD panel production lines for a certain new device. This will be delivered in your current fiscal year ending March 2024.

“I cannot comment on any details about specific clients. But as for a new game console, we have been involved in its R&D stage,” he told analysts.

While Wu didn’t mention the console specifically, it’s clear he’s related to Nintendo. Sharp has a long history of working together with Nintendo, such as providing LCD screens for older handheld devices like the DS consoles. He could be involved in the most rumored next console, the next Nintendo Switch model.

Nintendo itself has not announced a successor to the Nintendo Switch even though it has already reached its seventh year. Now it is ready to develop a successor to its flagship console after a long time. This new ad just might be.
