Yellow bet locations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Icerend Shrine stakes glow an eerie yellow, and once you’ve taken out all eight, you can battle Chien-Pao in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. These stakes are located in the Western Province and western parts of the Southern Province of Paldea.

First though, we recommend unlocking all of the Koraidon/Miraidon abilities. While you can find the stakes all by simply defeating the Open Sky Titan to unlock swimming and the False Dragon Titan to unlock climbing, completing this side quest will be much easier with all of your legendary mount’s abilities.

If you want to learn the history behind the shrines and place them on your world map, complete the history lessons at the Academy. However, learning these lessons is No a requirement for this side quest.

Below you will find the eight yellow stake locations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet:

Yellow Stake Location 1

This stake is in Cascarrafa and is found by looking behind the tree, which, in turn, is located behind the Gym on its left side.

You can easily see this tree when you stand in front of the gym.

It’s the big tree on the left.

Yellow Stake Location 2

This stake is located southeast of the Western Province Watchtower (Area One) and directly south of the Team Star Dark Crew base.

To reach it, fly to the Watchtower, climb the cliffs directly to the southeast of the tower, and from there follow the path until you reach the stake. It can be easily seen from the top of the Watchtower, so try climbing it if you’re having trouble locating the stake.

Yellow Stake Location 3

We recommend finding this stake after locating the one described above.

To reach it, head southeast from Stake 2 and drop down once you reach a ledge. Here you will find Stake 3 hidden in a corner of the cliff.

Yellow Stake Location 4

To find this stake, fly to the Western Province Pokemon Center (Area One) and head up the hill to where the windmills are located. Now all you have to do is turn west and you will see a gorge.

In the middle of this gorge is a small hill, and on top of it is the stake.

Yellow Stake Location 5

This stake is hidden on a ledge directly southeast of the Western Province Pokemon Center (Area One).

We recommend flying to this location, going up the hill southeast of the Pokemon Center, and going down to the other side where you’ll find the stake.

Climb this mountain to find the stake.

Yellow Stake Location 6

For this stake, you’ll want to take the southern path that leads from the Western Province Pokemon Center (Area One) to the Alfornada Cavern. Along the way, you will see a hill on your left that you need to climb.

Continue up this hill until you reach a mountain, which you will want to climb until you reach the ledge with the stake.

Go along this hill and up the cliff at the end.

Yellow Stake Location 7

This stake can be quite difficult to find due to it being hidden inside a tunnel, which is located southwest of Cortondo and quite easy to miss.

To get to the tunnel, fly to Cortondo (West) before heading south, over the river, past a pond, and eventually jump into the field below where you’ll find the entrance to the cave.

Go past the pond south of Cortondo to find this tunnel.

Now all you have to do is travel through the cave and pull the stake, which, now that you’re in the right place, is very easy to spot.

Yellow Stake Location 8

The final stake is located in the Southern Province (Area Four) at the top of the middle waterfall, which is located directly south of Cortondo.

It can be reached by going south from Cortondo until you reach the mountain or, if you’ve visited it before, by flying to the South Province Watchtower (Area Four) and heading west.

Either way, head up the mountain to the middle waterfall when you reach it, then jump across the gap to the stake.

Once you have rolled the final bet, a roar will echo through Paldea. Now it’s time to head to the shrine, but we recommend stocking up on Ultra Balls and healing items.

How to catch Chien-Pao in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Chien-Pao is an Ice and Dark-type Pokémon at level 60.

This means that it is weak to Types Bug, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Rock and Steel. Psychic-type attacks will have no effect on Chien-Pao.

It’s a good idea to stock up on Ultra Balls and healing items, like Max Potions, before trying to catch Chien-Pao.

We recommend starting the battle with a Pokémon that has an advantage over Chien-Pao and is of a similar level. This ensures that you can easily remove his health to make him easier to catch without the worry of knocking him out completely.

Paralyzing and putting Chien-Pao to sleep will also allow you to focus on catching him, rather than keeping your team alive. However, avoid poisoning Chien-Pao or else he might be knocked out!

After bringing Chien-Pao’s health to red, it’s also a good idea to switch to a Pokemon that takes little damage from its attacks or has a high amount of HP, so again, you can focus on catching it.

We quickly trap Chien-Pao in an Ultra Ball, but, if your battle drags on, then try using a Timer Ball; the more turns taken in a battle, the more effective this Poké Ball will be at catching Pokémon.

Chien-Pao has the Sword of Doom ability, which will lower the Defense stat of all Pokemon in battle except itself.

It will also have the following move set when you catch it:

Move on Write Category Effect Energy Precision PAGES
clash of icicles Ice Physical The user attacks by smashing large icicles into the target. This can also cause the target to flinch. 85 90 10
Ruin Dark Special The user summons a ruinous disaster. This reduces the target’s HP by half. N/A 90 10
Sucker Punch Dark Physical This move allows the user to attack first. This move fails if the target is not preparing an attack. 70 100 5
Holy sword Struggle Physical The user attacks by slashing with a sword. Changes to the target’s stats do not affect the damage dealt by this move. 90 100 fifteen

After adding Chien-Pao to your Pokédex, why not try catching the other Ruinous Pokémon: Wo-Chien, Ting-Lu, and Chi-Yu?

If you want to learn more about the ruinous Pokémon and their history, we recommend that you complete the history lessons. If you’ve been following this story, visit Raifort after catching all the ruinous Pokemon for an extra reward.

Good luck catching Chien-Pao!
