Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The First Day of School quest steps

The first day of school is the introductory chapter for both Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

You must complete this introduction to unlock the other stories: Victory Road, Path of Legends, and Starfall Street, before you can begin adventuring in Paldea in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It’s also when you’ll make one of the most important decisions in any Pokémon game: choosing your starter Pokémon.

Next you will learn how to complete the First Day of School in Pokémon Scarlet and Violetso you can really start your Pokémon journey.

How to complete the First Day of School in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet start out in Cabo Poco, a small place on the southern coast of the Paldea region, and the first task you must complete is to go downstairs to talk to your mom.

Once Principal Clavell arrives, head upstairs to collect your hat and bag before heading back downstairs. After a scene, you will be left with Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly. You can wonder about your garden with the Pokémon, but, to continue the story, you have to visit the mansion to the east of your house.

Upon arrival, you’ll meet Nemona and eventually get to choose your starter Pokemon.

Your options are:

  • Sprigatito – Grass type
  • Fuecoco – Fire type
  • Quaxly – Water Type

Nemona will then take the initiator that is weak for the chosen initiator type; so if she chose Sprigatito, for example, she’ll choose Quaxly. This choice works in your favor and will help you win your first Pokémon battle against Nemona on the beach behind the mansion.

Nemona You will have the following equipment and you will win 500 prize money for defeating her:

Pokemon Level Write weaknesses
5 Grass
Bug, Fire, Flying, Poison and Ice
Earth, rock and water
Grass and Electricity

After you defeat her, Nemona will add the Pokédex app to your Rotom phone. Now you can keep track of all the Pokémon you find in Paldea!

Now, go back to the front of the mansion where you will meet your mom. She will give you five potions and a sandwich, all of which will come in handy in the near future.

Next, you need to head north to the Poco Path, so you can learn how to catch Pokemon from Nemona. She will give you five Poké Balls to help you with this task and soon you will find yourself catching a Lechonk – Level 3!

Nemona will then give you an additional 10 Poké Balls and ask you to meet her at the lighthouse. This lighthouse is at the end of the Poco Path, so feel free to explore the area and catch more Pokemon for your team! You will also find some useful items.

You will eventually hear a roar as you venture down the Poco Path and as you go through the gap in the fence you will fall to the beach below.

There you will find a mysterious Pokémon lying on the beach: Koraidon in Pokémon Scarlet and Miraidon in Pokémon Violet. Approach the Pokémon lying on the beach and offer it the sandwich your mom gave you. This will give the Pokémon some of its energy back and you should now follow it to the Inlet Grotto.

Continue following Koradion/Miraidon through the Inlet Grotto, catching a couple of Pokemon if you like, until you’re faced with a Houndoom. At this point, Koradion/Miraidon will fly you out of the cave where you will meet Nemona. She will also give you TM032 Swift.

Then, head to the lighthouse where you will meet arven. It will challenge you to a Pokémon battle and will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Write weaknesses
Skwovet 5 Normal Struggle

You will receive 300 prize money and the Poké Ball for Koradion/Miraidon for defeating Arven.

Then, go up to the top of the lighthouse where Nemona will ask you to find her in Los Platos. This town is north of your current location, and along the way, you’ll have a chance to catch more Pokemon, like Paldean Wooper and Fidough. There are also a number of trainers for you to fight!

Remember, unlike previous Pokémon games, you must talk to the trainers to fight them in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Nemona will be waiting for you at the Pokémon Center in Los Platos and will give you 5,000 League Points. These can be used to craft TMs at Pokémon Centers and as payment at a variety of stores throughout the region.

You should now head to Mesagoza, which is directly north of Los Platos. You really can’t miss the huge gates. A small field sits between Los Platos and your destination, containing more trainers for battle and Pokémon, including Pichu.

Nemona she will meet you at the gates of Mesagoza and is eager for another battle. She will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Write weaknesses
8 Grass
Bug, Fire, Flying, Poison and Ice
Earth, rock and water
Grass and Electricity
daddy 9 Electric
Ground Type: Electric

Defeating her will earn you 530 prize money and three Revives.

After entering Mesagoza, you can explore the city or head directly north to the school. In Pokémon Scarlet, you will attend the Orange Academy, and in Pokémon Violet, the Grape Academy. It is worth taking the time to look around Mesagoza as it contains hair salons, a variety of restaurants and a selection of shops selling items, sandwich ingredients and clothing.

When you’re ready, continue north up the stairs until you find a student being harassed by two Team Star Grunts. Annoyed by your interference, the grunts will challenge you to a battle.

the First Team Star Grunt will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Write weaknesses
Shroodle 8 Poison / Normal Psychic and Earth

You will win 416 prize money from this battle.

Nemona will arrive after this battle and give you the Terra Orb. This will allow you to Terastalize a Pokémon; possibly altering its type, but always giving it a cool crystal look. Be sure to use the Terra Orb wisely, as it can only be used once before it needs to be charged up at a Pokemon Center.

Now you will be challenged by the second Star Grunt Teamwhich will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Write weaknesses
Yungoos 9 Normal Struggle

You will receive 468 prize money for defeating this grunt.

With Team Star banished for now, you can continue north and finally reach your new school.

After being introduced to the rest of the class, you will need to visit the staff room and cafeteria.

In the staff room, you will find Nemona and unlock the Victory Road story. This is your traditional challenge of defeating the Gym Leader and the Elite Four with the goal of becoming a Pokémon Champion.

In the Cafeteria, you will find Arven and unlock the Path of Legends story. With this story, you will help Arven find five Titan Pokémon and the mysterious herbs they contain.

Upon unlocking these stories, you will find yourself in the school lobby, but you will be quickly called to the principal’s office.

However, before heading there, it’s worth talking to the woman behind the desk in the lobby, because it will allow you to take a series of lessons. At the moment, only Battle Studies, Biology, and Mathematics will be available, but more will become available as you defeat Paldea Gym Leaders. Some lessons can even lead you to unlock more adventures…

It’s not good to keep the principal waiting, though, so make sure you head to the principal’s office!

There, Clavell will introduce you to the Professor from your game: Professor Sudo in Pokémon Scarlet and Professor Turo in Pokémon Violet. Regardless of the professor who calls, you will be asked to take care of Koraidon or Miraidon, depending on your version, and help him recover the lost power from him.

With that, the meeting is over and Nemona will arrive to show you to your bedroom. Now you only have to lie down and, once the days have stopped flying, leave for the Schoolyard.

Now just head up the stairs and watch the final scene of this intro on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. During this scene, Cassiopeia will contact you again and unlock the Starfall Street story. For this mission, you will need to raid the five Team Star bases located in the Paldea region and defeat the bosses that rule them.

Congratulations, you are now free to explore Paldea! The region is your Cloyster. Will you travel the Victory Road, investigate the Path of Legends, or fight your way through Starfall Street?
