New Nintendo Switch Update 17.0.0 Is More Than Just a Stability Patch

Nintendo just released the latest yesterday Nintendo Switch firmware version 17.0.0, which improves overall stability to improve user experience. However, it’s not just that.

According to the data miner GhoulmealDome on Twitter/X, found out more about the update than what was posted on Nintendo’s official update page. He shared that New error codes added.several Updated HOME menu messages (including GUI files), and The time zone data was also updated..

The data miner also noted that the version 17.0.0 update also made some changes to the swear words list, which now bans the words ‘thot’ and ‘reeee’ in all languages, including “slang for testicles that evades censorship” in Japanese.

While there’s no reason for Nintendo to detail every change it made, I would have preferred if they included those notes on the firmware update page.

Nintendo has yet to reveal the next-gen Nintendo Switch, as documents leaked during the FTC trial against Microsoft showed that next-gen Switch development kits were already provided to Activision Blizzard for game development. We have yet to hear from Nintendo when they officially announce the Nintendo Switch 2, hopefully next year.
