In the past decade or so, narrative-driven games that let you control how they unfold have become really popular. One of the best offerings of this sub-genre has been the Life is Strange series. And now, the creators of the franchise are making a new narrative game.

Developer Don’t Nod posted a teaser image of its new narrative game with job openings. In what looks like a retro 90s theme, this is the first teaser for its brand-new IP.

Since the first game came out in 2015, Life is Strange has gained a cult following in the gaming world. Its episodic nature and willingness to talk about serious topics set it apart from other narrative games. Aside from being a critical success, Life is Strange also sold over 3 million copies.

Hence, the game starting a franchise was never in question. Since 2015 There has been a sequel to the first game, a prequel, and a spin-off. The series has held up well with the most recent release, Life is Strange: True Colors, generating double the revenue of the first game.

But, there were some questions over the 3rd game in the series. Don’t Nod developed the first two games and while Deck Nine made the prequel and the spin-off. As it turned out, Deck Nine got the gig for the upcoming Life is Strange games while Don’t Nod switched attention to its own IPs.

Don’t Nod tweeted out an image of its upcoming project. The image displays a retro theme with an old console attached to a CRT TV, in a basement. What catches our attention is Don’t Nod calling it a new narrative game, in the ilk of Life is Strange.

Besides the 90s homage image, the developer also posted some job listings for this game. So, it is probably not releasing soon and is pretty far away. However, some fans under the tweet are assuming it’s a sequel to Life is Strange 2.

In 2021, the studio said it would be focusing on new in-house IPs. EuroGamer also confirmed this by saying Don’t Nod was cutting ties with Life is Strange. A big reason for that was the developer’s studio in Paris, which made Life is Strange, splitting up to form a new studio in Montreal.

Michel Koch, the co-creator of Life is Strange, is leading this project. He revealed this in the tweet while replying to a question from a fan. Luc Baghadoust, the producer of the franchise, is also working on this project, according to Koch.

Additionally, many veterans from Life is Strange 1 and 2 are working on this new narrative game. So, even though it is most probably a new IP, the creative force behind it has us excited.

We don’t know anything certain about this upcoming narrative game. Aside from the confirmation that the Don’t Nod Montreal studio is working on it, everything else is in the dark. But, judging from the team behind it and the connection to Life is Strange, it is going to be a treat.

The creators of Life is Strange working on it is enough to get us hyped for the project. Hopefully, we hear more about this project as we are eager to see what Don’t Nod comes up with. Let’s hope we get to play this narrative game alongside the Deck Nine Life is Strange project.
