How Wakanda Forever Improved Shuri’s Black Panther Origin
The world of Wakanda is steeped in history and culture. Whether in the comics or the movies, what has made Wakanda so powerful and unique is how it embraced the future with one hand and carried the past with the other. As a result, it became a model for how many other nations should act in terms of growth and advancement. That said, you didn’t get this level of breakthrough overnight.
Trial and error has been the backbone of Wakanda for centuries, and even its protector, Black Panther, knew it. But even winning the Black Panther title was a center of trial and error, as well as heavy trial. No one knew this more than Princess Shuri, who became Black Panther for a time after T’Challa. But where the comics apparently had many against them, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever changed this part of the story for the better.
Shuri’s comic origin was different from Wakanda Forever’s
In the comics, Shuri was always interested in the title of Black Panther. In fact, she even wanted to challenge her uncle for the title before T’Challa challenged him first and won. When the time came when T’Challa was seemingly dead, Shuri knew that Wakanda would need a protector and she began the challenges necessary to make herself worthy of meeting the Panther God. However, during this time, she was met with opposition and support, but mostly opposition from those who felt she was not ready. Even the Panther God seemed to believe that she was seeking the Panther powers for the wrong reasons. However, this did not stop him from donning her mask and fighting for her country against all of her detractors.

That being said, she met with no opposition, as the need for a Panther was so great that her closest friends wanted nothing more than to help her succeed in creating a heart-shaped synthetic herb. When Shuri gained her powers and appeared as the Black Panther to the Wakandans and Jabari, she was greeted with acceptance and many were prepared to follow her into battle.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Solidified Wakanda’s Greatest Stronghold
Shuri’s comics origin showed that even the royal family faced judgment should one of the members reach heights that it seemed like they shouldn’t. But in doing so, she showed how the comic version of Wakanda didn’t always embrace the power of the nation’s women. While the Dora Milaje and Queen Ramonda were prime examples of powerful women even before Shuri became her own, it didn’t stop many from thinking that people like Shuri were never destined to become Black Panther. Having said that, wakandan forever she fully embraced the idea that Wakandan women truly gave the nation strength.
While T’Challa and T’Chaka were powerful kings and leaders who deserved their respect, they had great women behind them who lifted them up. Also, rather than keep that fact hidden, Wakanda celebrated his women and made sure everyone knew their power and the strength they gave so many. As a result, wakandan forever‘s characters easily celebrating Shuri’s evolution is a more logical and welcome reaction.
