How to get Solgaleo and Lunala in Pokémon Go

Solgaleo and Lunala both are legendary Gen 7 Pokémon, which debuted in pokemon go during the Season of Light.

Released during the Astral Eclipse event in Pokémon Go, at the time of writing you can only get one of these Pokémon and you must have completed a certain amount of the special research mission A Cosmic Companion.

This quest is where you catch Cosmog, the first stage evolution for Solgaleo and Lunala, and earn enough candy for their evolutions. However, there is a special requirement that you must meet in order for Cosmoem to evolve into Solgaleo or Lunala.

Next you will learn how to evolve Cosmoem to Solgaleo or Lunala in Pokemon Go.

How to evolve Cosmoem into Solgaleo in Pokémon Go

To evolve Cosmoem to Solgaleo in Pokémon Go you will need 100 Cosmog candies Y carry out the evolution during the day.

Solgaleo is a Steel and Psychic type Pokémon.

As of this writing, the only way to earn Cosmog Candy is to reach step 8 of the special research mission A Cosmic Companion, Rare Candy or have Cosmog or Cosmoem as a companion.

However, even if you have enough candy for both evolutions, you only have one Cosmoem, so make sure Solgaleo is the Pokémon you want to add to your Pokédex.

When it comes to meeting the time requirement, it’s important to remember that the time in Pokémon Go matches your current time zone. This means that if it is currently daytime where you are, it will also be daytime in Pokémon Go, and if it is a sunny day, the map will be a vibrant green.

Cosmoem’s evolution button should also reflect this by displaying a small silhouette of Solgaleo.

How to evolve Cosmoem into Lunala in Pokémon Go

To evolve Cosmoem into Lunala you need 100 Cosmog candies and for it to be night in pokemon go.

Lunala is a Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon.

As of this writing, the easiest way to earn enough candy for this evolution is to get to Step 8 in the special research mission A Cosmic Companion. You can earn additional Cosmog candy by using Rare Candy and having it as your friend.

However, even if you have 200 Cosmog Candy, you currently only have one Cosmoem in Pokémon Go, so consider evolving it into Lunala carefully.

In terms of meeting the time of day requirement, just wait for night to fall, both in reality and in Pokemon Go. The time in Pokémon Go matches your current time zone, so if it’s night at your location, that’s how it will be in-game, with the map turning a nice dark blue.

Cosmoem’s evolution button should also show a small silhouette of Lunala.

Currently the Greedy Gluttons event is live, and the arrival of Guzzlord and PokéStops for gold and mystery coins as part of the Season of Light. Elsewhere, be sure to use the Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres.

Is Solgaleo or Lunala better in Pokémon Go?

At the time of writing, players can only have one Cosmoem in Pokemon Go and this means you have to choose between Solgaleo and Lunala. This leads to the question, which is better?

Neither Solgaleo nor Lunala excel in raids due to their move sets preventing them from taking full advantage of their dual types. Solgaleo’s Metal Claw lacks the power to nullify Metagross’s Meteor Mash, and while Lunala does it slightly better, it also needs a stronger moveset to outclass the other Pokemon on their types.

It’s a similar story in Go Battle League: Solgaleo is an interesting option for both Ultra and Master League, but that poor moveset once again holds him back. Meanwhile, Lunala currently doesn’t have the moveset to be heavy in the leagues. He has the potential to become a strong option in the future if he gets moves like Psyshock, but there’s no guarantee this will happen.

For this reason, we recommend turning Cosmoem into the legendary that you simply prefer.

Good luck adding Solgaleo or Lunala to your Pokédex!
