One of the best parts of any Pokémon game is choosing which starter Pokémon will be your partner for the rest of your journey. This is no different in the latest installment in the franchise, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Right before you start your adventure through the Paldea region, you can choose between the Grass-type Sprigatito, the Fire-type Fuecoco, and the Water-type Quaxly. You can only choose one to be your partner, but it is possible to have all three starter Pokemon in your game. But how exactly can you achieve that? Trading with your friends via Link Trade in the main menu of the game!

Realistically, there are two different ways to acquire Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly as non-starter Pokemon. Both involve having a friend with another copy of the game, but the effort is different.
- If you have a friend who already has a starter Pokemon you need, they can breed it to a Ditto and give you the egg that hatches through Link Trading. Our breeding guide gives you all the details on exactly how you can achieve this.
- restart and repeat
- This requires a bit of patience, but you simply start the game over and choose which starter Pokemon you’d like. You can then trade it with a friend via Link Trading. Once you do that, you can restart the game and repeat the process until you’ve traded all three starter Pokemon. Your friend can then trade the Pokémon for you to add to your Pokédex.
