How to beat Heimdall in God of War Ragnarök

If there’s a fight that’s a long time coming but is so satisfying by the time it comes that you don’t mind waiting so long, it’s Heimdall. Despite not wanting to wage war against the Norse pantheon, Kratos finds himself on a mission to eliminate them all in God of War Ragnarök. Honestly, of all the horrible deities that occupy Asgard, Heimdall is by far the worst. Here’s how to take it down.

Tips to defeat Heimdall in God of War Ragnarök – Vanaheim

Phase 1 – Gulltoppr

The first phase has Kratos facing off against the all-seeing god on his mount, Gulltoppr. This is about as easy as this fight is going to be. Attack the beast with all your Runic Attacks and Spartan Rage. Gulltoppr will launch an AoE Bifröst attack that has decent range. Otherwise, he will pounce on Kratos with an unblockable attack from time to time. Dodge that and counter literally everything else to put this warcat to the grave.

Phase 2 – Heimdall

Heimdall is complicated. Players will need to use the Draupnir Spear here. You can try the Leviathan Ax and Blades of Chaos, but you won’t get a hit. The answer is to throw Draupnir near Heimdall’s feet and explode it when he gets close enough.

Heimdall will telegraph an unlockable attack when he says “Slow down”. We found that jumping back was enough to avoid it. At about half health on him, Heimdall will put up a shield indicated by the braid covering his health bar. He continues your assault with Draupnir to take him out and continues to reduce his health bar.

Stage 3 – Glowing Arm

Heimdall makes use of Bifröst’s attacks throughout this fight. So when Kratos rips the idiot’s arm off, he’s not too surprising when he grows another one made entirely of that stuff. This phase is much the same as the second except that Heimdall is all kinds of fast and furious. Fortunately, that makes him vulnerable to the other weapons in Kratos’ arsenal. Avoid his many unblockable attacks, dodge the flying rocks and smash him with your own special attacks and enjoy taking this punk down.
