One of the biggest innovations to come with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a new box system. Trainers used to have to head to a Poké Center to place a Pokémon in a Box, of which there are usually only 20. However, Generation IX has a wide variety of Pokémon to collect, so trainers will definitely use their boxes early and often.
How to Store Extra Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet
You no longer need to travel to a Poke Center to store Pokémon in boxes! In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, all trainers can access their spaces from the pause menu, regardless of where they are in the Paldea region. Here’s how to access the crates:
- Open the menu with the X button
- Scroll down to Boxes
- Select Pokémon and click “Move” to place them in a Box

Trainers only get 8 Boxes to start their journey in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. However, there is also a battle team feature. This is a set of six Pokemon that trainers can preset to use in a given battle. For example, a trainer might have powerful equipment that he wants to use for battles, but in reality he spends most of his time catching other Pokémon. Now, they can simply click a button instead of replacing each individual Pokemon with their strong team when they need to take on a tough Gym battle.
