After leaving Xbox’s PlayGround Games, some of the leaders who created the Forza Horizon series have now founded a new AAA development studio.
This new study has been called hipster games And he has big ambitions. The founding team of the UK-based outfit, The Leamington Spa, is now led by former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown. He is also the creative director and studio head.
It was revealed that the new studio has now secured some major seed funding and already has a debut game planned. This upcoming title will be a new premium open world game that will be available on PC and consoles. The announcement didn’t specify if this will be a type of racing game, but there’s a good chance it could be one.
The leadership team will include COO Harinder Sangha and executive producer Tom Butcher. The former was previously co-studio head at Sumo Digital Leamington, while the latter was lead producer at Playground.
Maverick Games’ CTO is Matt Craven, who was CTO of PlayGround. Content Director Gareth Harwood was previously the Technical Art Director for Xbox Studio, and Audio Director Fraser Strachan was also the Audio Director at Playground Games.
Ben Penrose is now the art director of Maverick Games and was previously the art director of Playground Studio. UX/UI Director Elly Marshall was Design Director for EA Experience.
“Our goal is for Maverick Games to be a studio that people love,” Brown said. “For gamers, we’re already working on an exciting, high-quality title, and for developers, we’re building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and most of all, be a Maverick”.
