Several news outlets recently reported that Square Enix hasn’t given them review copies of Forspoken, which means pre-release reviews will be fewer this time around.
Square Enix has usually given out review codes to various outlets regarding their newly released titles, but only a few have been given out for Forspoken this time around. Several gaming journalists are now posting online that they haven’t received a review copy and even the biggest outlets are affected.
What about the review copies of Forspoken?
Media outlets that have reported that they have not acquired review copies include CVG Y RPG site. The Escapist Magazine Nick Calandra has also stated that they have not received a review copy as well. known youtuber skill up they expressed concern about the lack of review copies, saying it is a “huge red flag”. the edge tom warren says that the PC requirements will tell you everything you need to know for the lack of copies.
Sirus Gaming recently reported that the game’s PC system requirements are quite heavy, even if they are minimal. The game requires at least 16 GB of RAM, a graphics card of at least a GTX 1060 with 6 GB of VRAM, and a massive storage space of 150 GB or more. If Warren’s statement is true, then Square Enix may have felt that only a few reviewers could handle the game’s requirements for play on PC, hence the low supply of review codes.
A launch trailer was recently released revealing “acknowledgments” from various review sites. Most of them are singing the praises of the game saying that it is beautiful, endearing, fun and absolutely magical. The video doesn’t specify if these impressions are based on a full review of the game or the gameplay demo that was released a while back. Contrary to what critics say, one YouTuber commented on the video saying, “I played the demo and the world feels so lifeless. Nothing groundbreaking that I haven’t seen in generic open world games.”
Square Enix has not shared any statement to explain the lack of review copies.
Forspoken launches on January 24, 2023 exclusively on PC and PS5.
