Kagetsu is a cheerful and bright individual who gets along with others and cares for his friends. He serves as Princess Ivy’s retainer and is a loyal soldier at the capital of Elusia. However, he has a noticeable foreign accent. That could be due to his upbringing being in Deeprealm rather than Elusia.

Within battle, Kagetsu is not afraid to give everything he has. He doesn’t hesitate to use his secret sword training to rip apart anyone that gets in his way. Outside battle, Kagetsu appears to be handsome and likes to speak freely.

How To Recruit Kagetsu?

If you simply keep playing along the main story, you’ll eventually recruit Kagetsu around halfway into the storyline. But to be more specific, your first encounter with Kagetsu will be in Chapter 8: Kingdom of Might. However, you won’t get a chance to recruit him till Chapter 11: Retreat.

Kagetsu can be recruited in the main battle of the chapter. As the battle goes on, he’ll eventually join you in the second half of the chapter battle. He won’t be alone, as Ivy and Zelkov will also join your unit.

Best Class

As your support characters level up, they’ll eventually get the chance to change classes. But they also come with their base class, which can sometimes be best suited for them. There are actually two different classes that work with Kagetsu. Therefore, you should analyze which type of class your units need more and assign it to Kagetsu accordingly.

Kagetsu’s base class is the Swordmaster. It works well with Kagetsu as he received secret sword training in Deeprealm. The class has the Run Through skill which lets the player attack an adjacent foe and then move to the space opposite the enemy. They’re great at landing critical hits and outputting high levels of damage.

Alternatively, you can use the Paladin class with Kagetsu. Paladins, such as Vander, are strong and focused on movement. They’re strong against magic users and require an A-rank proficiency with a Lance. The Paladin class pairs well with Kagetsu as he already has a high Dexterity.

His already high stats combined with the Strength and Movement of the Paladin class, his output damage will increase substantially, and he’ll be able to move around the field more easily, wiping out any enemies in the way.

Kagetsu Stats

Each character gets starting stats which are usually aligned with what their starting class is. As Kagetsu is a Swordmaster, it isn’t surprising that his Speed and Dexterity are quite high. Additionally, he has a good amount of Luck and Health, allowing him to last far longer than many others in battle. Here are the starting stats for Kagetsu.

Health Strength Magic Dexterity Speed Defense Resistance Luck Build
35 17 5 22 22 14 10 17 9

Besides just the starting stats, another type of stat that is worth considering is the growth rate of each stat. That can determine how quickly each of your stats will level up compared to the other stats. This can also usually determine which stat is a character’s specialty. For Kagetsu, Speed, Dexterity, and Health are clearly above his other stats. But Defense and Luck closely follow behind these stats. Regardless, here is the growth rate for each of Kagetsu’s stats.

Weapons And Skills

Each character in Fire Emblem Engage can get different weapons based on which Emblem they decide to Engage with. Not only does that give you more weapons to use, but it also adds different skills to your arsenal. Despite that, each character comes with their own starting skills and weapon.

  • Weapon: Sword
  • Personal Skill: Kagetsu’s skill is Blinding Flash which lets you inflict -10 Avo on an enemy during combat if the unit initiates combat.

Considering Kagetsu is a Swordmaster, it makes sense that his starting weapon is a sword. His Starting Battle Style is Backup which works well with his high Dexterity stats.

You can use almost any of the 12 Emblems with any character in Fire Emblem Engage. These let your character gain different skills, weapons, and attacks that can be used during combat. However, there are certain Emblems that are more suitable for each character depending on their class. Here are the best suitable emblems for Kagetsu.

The first suitable Emblem for Kagetsu is Marth (Emblem of Beginnings). Marth first appeared in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and is one of the first Emblems available to you in the game. He has the Divine Speed Engage skill, and Lodestar Rush Engage Attack. He also offers a Rapier as his Engage Weapon.

With a Bond Level 1 with Marth, you can also use the Perceptive skill. It lets you have Avo+15 during combat if the unit initiates combat. The Avo also increases with a high-Speed stat, which Kagetsu possesses.

Another Emblem that can be used is Lyn (Emblem of Blazing). She offers the Call Doubles Engage Skill and Astra Storm Engage Attack with her Killer Bow weapon. With a Bond Level 5, you can use Speedtaker, which grants you a +2 Speed stack each time unit initiates combat and defeats an enemy. You can get 10 total stacks; the bonus lasts throughout the battle.

And with a Bond Level 18, you can use Alacrity++, which lets your unit follow up before an enemy can counterattack, but only if the unit has a speed advantage of 5. If you combine this skill with the speed stacks that you can get from Speedtaker, you’ll be able to cut down enemies easily.
