Some experts have now warned some PS5 owners not to keep their consoles in a vertical position as this could cause problems in the future.
According to a new report, this new PS5 issue is due to a design flaw related to the cooling system of the PS5’s accelerated processing unit. Experts claim that the apparent design flaw is about the liquid metal layer placed between the PS5’s APU chip and the heatsink.
It was revealed that there is a possibility of leakage of liquid metal when the console remains in a vertical position for a long time. When it is held upright, the liquid metal has a chance to start moving or flow out. If it leaks, the element that will manage the heat coming from the APU and, in turn, the processor will be damaged.
While the real damage is damage to the processor, the liquid metal that leaks out can leak to other sensitive PS5 internals. It can then start short-circuiting the console. Unfortunately, both versions of the PS5 have this problem, experts say.
The person who discovered this particular issue is a YouTuber. Cod3r Who is also a console repairman. He shared a video about this particular issue some time ago and now console repairers and technicians have claimed that they too have encountered this problem.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has not shared any statement regarding this new issue.
I personally keep my PS5 console horizontally for fear of accidentally dropping it if it’s in a horizontal position. Little did I know that my anxiety actually helped and prevented a major disaster. wow
So everyone, it’s better to keep your PS5 consoles sideways and not vertically.
