Doom Patrol S4 First Look Welcomes a Gerard Way & Nick Derington Hero to the Show

Casey Brinke will make her leap to tv within the upcoming fourth season of DC and HBO Max’s Doom Patrol.

Entertainment Weekly shared a first-look picture of actress Madeline Zima (Twin Peaks, Californication) within the bright-blue jumpsuit of Casey Brinke, aka Space Case. “Casey is so beloved both by our writers on staff and by fans of Doom Patrol in general,” showrunner Jeremy Carver instructed EW. “We finally found a way to bring her into the story in a way that feels wholly organic to us, even though to someone who’s never seen Doom Patrol, it might seem a little bats— insane. To us, it fits perfectly! And it’s not just a cameo.”

Gerard Way and Nick Derington collaborated on a critically-acclaimed Doom Patrol revival for DC Comics’ now-defunct Young Animal imprint in 2016. In the collection, Casey Brinke is a transcendent fourth-wall-breaking comedian e-book superhero named Space Case, who works in the actual world as an EMT. One day she comes up in opposition to members of the Doom Patrol, Robotman and Negative Man, and is all of the sudden contacted by the sentient stretch of metropolis street known as Danny The Street when her life — or lives — are modified perpetually.

Casey Brinke Makes Her Live-Action Debut

Brinke’s story is a comparatively new one for the Doom Patrol collection. Its first three seasons pulled materials from author Grant Morrison’s 44-issue run from 1989 to 1993, although Morrison has admitted that they haven’t watched the collection. Characters and entities such because the Brotherhood of Dada (modified to the Sisterhood of Dada) and Danny The Street issue into its episodes. In Way and Derington’s collection, Brinke’s existence carefully ties to Danny The Street, and Carver tells EW that Season 4 will embrace “a very special episode” regarding Danny and those that dwell amongst it.

Series stars Brendan Fraser, Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Joivan Wade, and Michelle Gomez will attend New York Comic Con on Sunday, Oct. 9 for an unique panel that may talk about additional plot particulars for the upcoming fourth season. Featuring a motley crew of misfit heroes that suffer alienation as a result of their unusual superpowers, Doom Patrol follows Jane (Guerrero), Rita Farr (Bowlby), Vic Stone (Wade), Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer/Matthew Zuk), and Cliff Steele (Fraser/Riley Shanahan), all of whom are introduced collectively and taken care of by Chief (Timothy Dalton). Dalton, nonetheless, left the collection following the stunning Season 3 finale.

Doom Patrol Season 3 is presently streaming on HBO Max. Season 4 doesn’t but have a launch date.
