Donny Cates Exits Hulk, Teases ‘Insane’ New Marvel Project

Donny Cates is no longer writing Marvel’s Hulk ongoing series, though the writer is teasing a “crazy” new project at House of Ideas.

Marvel Comics writer Donny Cates is no longer writing the editorial. Helmet ongoing series. However, she has quietly been laying the groundwork for a “crazy” new project at the House of Ideas.

marvel comics Helmet Issue #12 (due for release on February 15, 2023) was recently requested as written by Cates and series artist Ryan Ottley. However, a social media post by Ottley suggests that in addition to drawing the book, he’s also the sole writer on it, just like with issue #11 (due for release on January 18, 2023). “HELMET 12! February! Another issue I’m the writer AND the artist on,” Ottley tweeted. “Come see what this idiot Ottley will do with the rest of this HULK PLANET arc.” Asked if Cates is still writing the series, Ottley replied: “No, it went on to other things. I’ll be writing the rest of this arc. There’s always a chance he’ll return for later arcs, but I don’t know. I miss the amazing scripts from him, luckily he created such a strong foundation that the world is a wonder to continue creating.”

Cates himself took the time to clarify a few things on his own Twitter account. “Hi guys. I’m fine,” Cates wrote. “I just needed to breathe and deal with a lot of… life. Anyway, yeah, fear not, I’ve been working with [Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief C.B. Cebulski,] [Senior Editor Wil Moss] Y [Marvel] at the bottom of something CRAZY that… well, you’ll know it when you see it. Love you guys! See you soon! #Excelsior”

Donny Cates’ run against the Hulk comes to an end

After the conclusion of immortal hulkCates and Ottley were announced as the new Helmet creative team in June 2021, and its first issue will be released in November 2021. The first six issues of the now-current Marvel Helmet The series were written by Cates and penciled by Ottley. Issues 7 and 8 were written by Cates and illustrated by Martin Coccolo, with Daniel Warren Johnson also co-writing issue 8. The duo of Cates and Ottley reunited for issues 9 and 10, with Ottley, as mentioned above, set to take over as writer and artist on the upcoming Hulk #11.

Written and Illustrated by Ryan Ottley, Helmet Issue #11 goes on sale January 18, 2023 from Marvel Comics, followed by issue #12 on February 15, 2023.
