Story Highlights

  • Following the latest preview event, footage showcasing the potential PvP mode of Armored Core 6 has surfaced online.
  • The upcoming mecha game will feature 1v1 and 3v3 modes for players to test their skills but will not incorporate Soulsborne’s iconic invasion mechanic.
  • Director Yamamura has emphasized that the latest Armored Core entry is designed to be a single-player experience.

With August 25 fast approaching, we may have received our first look at the PvP mode of Armored Core 6. The video originates from a JP YouTuber, who pulled the content probably because it wasn’t allowed to be shown this early. FromSoftware announced the existence of 1v1 and 3v3 modes during an interview with PC Gamer but the lack of a visual showcase seems to have been alleviated with the reposted footage.

Armored Core 6 is the next entry in the iconic franchise that leans heavily into high-speed combat, freedom of horizontal & vertical movement, and in-depth customization. These attributes are a far cry from what FromSoftware is known for nowadays. Following the launch of Elden Ring, the amalgamation of everything the devs have learned since Demon’s Souls, they’re now using that knowledge to elevate the mecha series.

Recent gameplay previews have led to an increase in fans’ excitement as the last game in the Armored Core series, Verdict Day, launched in 2013. In addition to developing a whole new fanbase due to Soulsborne’s narrative style, challenging gameplay, and quality game design, the next installment in the AC series appears to be ready to present itself in front of a whole new playerbase.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will feature zones and bosses that will allow players to fully explore and utilize their AC's capabilities.

During the interview, director Yamamura was asked about whether Armored Core 6 will feature invasions considering FromSoftware’s long history with Soulsborne. Yamamura explained that this was not the direction AC6 was taking as it is designed to be a single-player game with a focus on customization.

There were instances where we thought this might be interesting to incorporate, maybe other multiplayer elements, but at the end of the day we wanted this to be focused on the singleplayer experience first and foremost. We wanted to focus on that assembly aspect, and that experience of personalizing and assembling your AC, constantly optimizing yourself in response to these different situations. We wanted that to be the core focus, and we wanted the story to carry through that,” Yamamura said.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon lands on August 25, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and last-gen consoles.
