Although the developers Motive Studio are faithfully following the original, players can collect Marker Fragments to unlock an alternate ending for Dead Space Remake. To get the secret ending in Dead Space Remake, you must first finish the main campaign at least once on any difficulty, and then play it again in New Game+ mode. It is in New Game Plus where you will have access to a new collectible called marker fragment. Collect the twelve Marker Shards listed above in each chapter, and that will unlock a new scene at the end of the game.

Note that the New Game Plus mode features stronger enemy variants, making the journey of collecting Dead Space Remake marker shards more challenging. The randomizer AI will also ensure that your experience differs from your previous game.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 1 Location

In Chapter 1, after entering the room in the Maintenance Bay to get the Data Board, a Marker Fragment can be found on the shelf right next to the desk where the Data Board is. Shoot the books that get in the way of the Marker Fragment.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 2 Location

In Chapter 2, a Marker Fragment can be found on the desk inside the Research Wing of the Medical Deck. Before grabbing the Shock Pad, he goes down the elevator and into Terence Kyne’s office. You will find it on his desk.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 3 Location

In Chapter 3, you can find the Marker Fragment in the engine room where you manually start the engines. Before doing so, go to the dark part of the room where there is a desk with robotic arms. Look behind you and you’ll see a purple glow, that’s the marker fragment you’re looking for.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 4 Location

In Chapter 4, you can find the Marker Fragment in the Rest Room on the Bridge. The marker fragment can be found on the ground next to the candle. This is where Isaac talks about how he hates the Church of Unitology.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 5 Location

In Chapter 5, you will find yourself back in the medical deck. Once you’ve freed the hunter, go to Dr. Mercer’s office on floor 4. Pick up the marker fragment on the control panel below the Necromorph Infector specimen before overriding the lock.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 6 Location

In Chapter 6, the Marker Fragment can be found in the Cryogenics room on the Medical Deck. Go ahead, deal with the Necromorph Hunter first and then the southwest door of the room, look back and grab it with Kinesis.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 7 Location

In Chapter 7, the Marker Fragment can be found in the Hydroponics in the East Grow Chamber. Once you turn gravity off to grab the Wheezers, go to the top right corner as soon as you enter. You will see the Marker Fragment on floor 4. Make sure to grab it before piloting the shuttle to Aegis VII.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 8 Location

In Chapter 8, go to the Mineral Samples room in Mining to find the Marker Fragment on the shelf. You will first need to grab the Dallas ring and get level 3 security clearance to get past the locked door before heading to floor 5 and accessing the mineral sample room.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 9 Location

In Chapter 9, go to the Communications Center on the Bridge Deck to find the Marker Fragment floating inside the giant meat. When you’re floating in the air, get close enough to grab the Marker Fragment.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 10 Location

In Chapter 10, the marker fragment can be found in the deluxe shift bunks on floor 3 in the crew quarters. You will first need to get rid of the Necromorph growths to get to the elevator that gives you access to the deluxe shift bunks. Then install the power and use the circuit breaker to open the doors to this room.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 11 Location

In Chapter 11, the marker fragment can be found on the table behind some wine at the information desks in the crew quarters.

Dead Space Remake Marker Fragment 12 Location

In Chapter 12, the last Marker Fragment can be found under a shelf in the Cargo Bay in the Hangar. You can pick it up before you hitch the cargo crane.

How to unlock the secret ending of Dead Space remake

Once you’ve obtained all 12 Marker Fragments, head to Captain Mathius’s room on the third floor of Crew Quarters, where you’ll see a shrine where you can place each Marker Fragment you’ve found.

After that, simply finish the game which leads to an alternate ending, different from what you witnessed during your first match. This secret ending will not play if you have not collected all 12 marker shards and placed them in the shrine.
