Story Highlights

  • The Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt battle royale devs recently said in a new blog post that the title will no longer be further developed from now on.
  • The decision was made because of a massive lack of players in the game, leading the team to finalize the unfortunate decision. However, users will still be able to play the entry.
  • The title will be powered by servers for as long as possible by the team at Sharkmob, letting the current loyal but small bunch of players enjoy the entry.
  • Sharkmob is currently crafting two new unannounced AAA projects behind the scene, powered by Unreal Engine 5. However, no specific or official details exist for them.

The Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt battle royale developers recently announced in a new blog post that the entry’s development has been completely stopped. Unfortunately, the title was only released 12 months ago and will soon become devoid of any new updates for the community. The team finalized the shocking news after observing a massive lack in the population of faithful players that inhibited entry on a daily basis.

The free-to-play title has been toiling to retain its playerbase, and the existing users are also few in number, leading the studio to come up with such drastic measures. For instance, at the time of writing, there are only 923 players currently duking it out in the fun battle royale entry, as per SteamDB. The 24-hour peak was barely more than 1,500 users, which is a giant far cry from the initial 30,000 players it boasted initially soon after release.

While we have an amazing and very engaged community, we haven’t been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development. This has led us to the decision to stop further development of Bloodhunt,” said the team in the blog post.

Regardless, Sharkmob ensured the loyal community that Bloodhunt will stay playable for as long as the team could possibly power the servers. In other words, we still have a chance to indulge in the enjoyable vampiric battle royale, but there will be no new content and updates that freshen the user experience.

Bloodhunt servers will stay up and the game will remain available to play. Our aim is to keep the servers going for as long as we have an active player base and community,” continued the team.

The users that want to keep playing the game until the plugs are officially pulled from the servers do not have to worry about redundancy. As per the devs, a voting system will be placed in Bloodhunt that will regularly unlock new items and keep the experience rejuvenating. The cosmetics will also become unlockable using the in-game currency in the future before the team eventually removes the in-game purchases soon on September 26th.

The developers further mention that it was a hard decision to make as a lot of sweat and tears were poured into the free-to-play battle royale project. It saw renowned success upon launch but failed to preserve a massive player base like some of the other battle royale entries dominating the Steam store. Nevertheless, Sharkmob will not just sit around now, as the team already has two separate unannounced projects cooking behind the curtains.

The two new AAA unannounced projects were exposed through job listings, letting gamers catch a glimpse at some of the hints present concerning the studio’s future games. Sharkmob’s new IPs are highly ambitious large-scale online multiplayer ventures like its first game, which is fueled by none other than Unreal Engine 5.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is an enthralling free-to-play battle royale title that explores a rather dreary world enveloped by an unforgiving battle between various vampire factions. The third-person action shooter requires players to use wits, strengths, and the environment to strike from the shadows and conquer the rounds.
