Black Myth: Wukong Is Hitting Stores In The Summer Of 2024

  • Black Myth: Wukong will launch in the summer of 2024.
  • A new short film by the developers about the Chinese New Year revealed this date.
  • As of now, it’s only confirmed to release on PC, but the video suggests a console release is also possible.

Due to Unreal Engine 5, indie games have come a long way in the past few years. The engine has allowed small studios and independent developers to create the projects they had only dreamed of before. One highly anticipated indie project making full use of the UE5 Engine is Black Myth: Wukong from Game Science.

Based on a classic work of 16th-century Chinese literature, the game is as Soulsborne as you can get. Players control one of the three disciples in the original book, Sun Wukong, as a monkey and can turn into an insect. Now, a new short film has revealed the release date of Black Myth: Wukong and it is coming out in the Summer of 2024.

A YouTube short film based on the Chinese New Year is the source of our info. Black Myth: Wukong’s official YouTube account made a cute video about the upcoming year of the rabbit. What catches our attention the most, however, is the date at the end: Summer 2024.

In the video titled “Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit!” we see a rabbit getting a package that contains Black Myth: Wukong. He seems really excited to play it and that is made obvious when he dances with it. But, the game takes a long time to download, as video games usually do.

When it finally downloads and the rabbit launches it, the game crashes and is unable to play. The really old Windows PC setup apparent in the video might have something to do with this. Frustrated with this, the rabbit gets on his scooter to upgrade his age-old specs to play Black Myth: Wukong.

He spends a lot of money to get the supplies and finally returns to his apartment after traveling a long distance. Such struggles and trials also mimic the story of the novel and also of Black Myth: Wukong. The rabbit finally builds a modern and state-of-the-art PC setup, emphasized by the dreamy montage.

Good luck, good health, and lots of happiness.
Game Science wishes you a very happy fancy dandy Year of the Bunny!”

However, when he launches the game, the rabbit has to face another hurdle. Black Myth: Wukong is not playable until 2042 and we can assume that’s a long time from his reaction to the video. In a fit of rage, the protagonist tears the game apart and throws it out of his window.

We fast forward to gameplay footage of Black Myth: Wukong and when it zooms out, two young rabbits are playing the game. An old rabbit in a wheelchair enters the room and we can instantly judge it’s our friend from the start of the video. He is shocked to see his grandchildren (we assume) playing this game and the screen cuts to a calendar.

On this calendar, the year 2024 is visible, which is a bit confusing considering the context of the short film. But, we find the reason for this placement soon as 2024 is now present alongside “Summer“. Hence, this is how the video confirms Black Myth: Wukong will be released in the Summer of 2024.

Another interesting thing to notice is that the grandchildren at the end are playing the RPG on what seems like consoles. Only PC has been announced as a platform for Black Myth: Wukong as of now by developer Game Science. So, seeing what we assume looks like a console might foreshadow a release on the platform.

Even though it is going to be a long wait until 2024, the RPG seems like it will make it worthwhile. We guess waiting for 1.5 years is much better than waiting till 2042. Hopefully, we will see Black Myth: Wukong released on consoles alongside PC in the summer of 2024.
