There’s no denying that the best plus rifles are rapidly dominating the meta in Destiny 2 right now (December 2022 – January 2023). Historically, pulse rifles have only been good in long range engagements with long corridors. But since Titan’s obstacles are PvP everywhere, shooting behind cover is more popular than ever.

Between hot spots like No Time to Explain and the growing threat of Revision Zero, pulse rifles seem to be taking over the charts.

Here’s a list of the 12 best plus rifles in Destiny 2 competitive PvP, according to Destiny Tracker. Oddly enough, we agree with virtually all of these choices. But maybe push the vigilance wing up a bit. Top 5, maybe. (Showing bias.)

Horror List (Expert)

Let’s start the list with a rifle that is seeing 0.258% usage in PvP, the Horror Last (Expert) Plus Rifle is actually one of the best Plus Rifles in the game right now. But after looking at No. 11 and the other guns that follow, you can see why it’s at the bottom of the list. It’s pretty much a jack-of-all-trades, master of none that only comes with an expert version.

How to get:

  • A chance to visit some Grandmaster Nightfalls

Outbreak Perfect

This is quite surprising to us. A few seasons ago, Outbreak Perfected and Bad Jojo used to be part of the meta after Pulse Rifles underwent a significant change. But since then Outbreak Perfect has barely hung on in the top 10 and Bad Jojo has fallen off completely.

Maybe these guys just really like how it feels every time you secure a kill. In any case, with Destiny’s plans to move to SIVA material in the future, you’ll want to keep this gun and its catalyst ready. It’s still an S-tier plus rifle though.

How to get:

  • Monument to the Lost Lights – Red War Exotics
    • 1x foreign cipher
    • 150,000 gamers
    • 250 legendary shards
    • 2x Ascendant Shards

Vigilance Wing

The OG weapon guardians brought out when their team “underperforms”, the Vigilance Wing is a weapon that works best when you’re the last guardian standing in your fireteam. This is still true today but saying you need your teammates to die in order for it to perform doesn’t do it justice.

Overall, this is still a solid weapon in Destiny 2 and one of the best plus rifles to equip. Of course, it could use another buff or two to swing free from mid-range.

How to get:

Wells X

Veles-X is the perfect complement to any Void 3.0 build this season. Its main drawback is that it relies heavily on the Repulsor Brace to be usable. Without it, it is the best. The clip helps to kill but is simply outclassed by the more versatile pulse rifles.

How to get:

  • Awarded after reaching rank 16 of any ritual activity (Vanguard, Crucible, Gambit)

The difference

The use of disparity has grown considerably since the flood of Titan obstacles hit competitive PvP. It’s a Hakke weapon that does a lot of damage against obstacles, and when combined with this season (Season 19) Anti-Barrier mod, you have a weapon that can hit obstacles with two to three pulls of the trigger. Very good at destroying. That’s not bad for a dual weapon either.

How to get:

  • A season of serf activity
  • Craftable version available.

Syncopation-53

Sycopation-53 has been a great weapon for all kinds of activities. In PvE, it can roll with Outlaw and Headstone. When it comes to PvP, the moving target and headseeker roll make this SUROS Synergy Plus rifle a deadly weapon in the right hands.

Best of all, you don’t even need to pick up the end-game content to get it, it’s a world drop weapon that can appear from almost any event.

How to get:

  • Random legendary world drop

keep cool

The only reason I can think of why Stay Frosty is so high on this list is because it’s part of the Destiny 2 Dawning 2022 event. It has some pretty cool PvP perks, we’ll give it that. But we fully expect this gun to drop completely soon after the event ends.

If there’s anything that can keep the Sty Frosty on this list, it’s because it’s one of the few light plus rifles with good PvP roles. So who knows? It may stay in the top 10 for a long time.

How to get:

  • Decreased activity during the dawning event

Peace of mind

Peace of Mind didn’t make the list because of its frame or what it brings to the table, it made the list because it allows for an aggressive playstyle in the midrange. It’s not the best with its 0.8 second TTK (time to kill) but once you have the Land Tank Origin Trait enabled, you can win a few more matches where you would have died.

How to get

  • Season of missing activities
  • Craftable version available.

messenger (expert)

Two things work to the Messenger’s advantage in PvP. One – This is a high impact frame plus rifle that has recently been given a movement buff. And two – it’s a specialist weapon that comes with better stats and perks overall. This is a very safe bet for players who are already very good at PvP.

How to get:

  • Chance to get the loot chest in the lighthouse after passing the Trial of Osiris flawlessly

BxR-55 Battler

If you haven’t guessed it yet, the BxR-55 Battler is Halo’s OG battle rifle. Bungie paid homage to the gun for Destiny 2 as part of its 30th Anniversary Pack.

In PvP, this weapon is one of the most solid weapons to have in ranged battles. First of all, the zoom on this weapon is simply incredible and the recoil is almost non-existent. Secondly, hip-firing this weapon actually boosts its stats and this is due to its intrinsic feature. Pair with the right traits and you’re ready to match. It can duel at ranges that other pulse rifles cannot.

How to get:

  • The Courage of Eternity
  • Craftable version available.

Revision zero

The first upgrade for Revision Zero just became available this week, and its popularity is skyrocketing. We knew this exotic plus was going to be really good. We had no idea though that this was to happen. That’s good Goodness in PvP knows what’s going to happen in the meta once the third and fourth upgrades are released.

Take our advice, and switch to the more reliable 4 Burst mode. But if you are comfortable with two bursts, that’s fine too.

How to get:

  • At the end of Operation: Seraph’s Shield alien quest
  • Craftable version available.

No time to explain.

Since update 6.3.0, No Time to Explain has gone from a solid PvP option to a must-have gun in the meta and that’s due to two things: the new full-auto setting and the high-impact frame plus rifles. Change Bungie replaced the full auto mode on the gun for Feeding Frenzy. Meaning we now have a weapon with Feeding Frenzy that no longer has a movement penalty and a TTK (time to kill) of .67 seconds. with A portal that almost guarantees body shots.

And some people wonder why it’s the best pulse rifle in PvP, right now.

How to get:

  • Obtained after completing the Beyond Light campaign and talking to the Exo Stranger.

And that’s our list of the best plus rifles in Destiny 2. If you’re wondering why there isn’t one in PvE, well, it’s just a single list with modded mods here and there. There’s no time to explain even in the top 5 for PvE, that’s how much players want to close it after a PvP match.
