Baldur’s Gate 3 New Hotfix 2.1 Fixes A Rather Stingy Bug With Save Files

Story Highlights

  • Larian Studios has published the new hotfix 2.1 for Baldur’s Gate 3, which addresses a crucial issue causing crashes in the save files. The file size initially had a limit that is now removed by the team.
  • The devs said that players were doing so much in their journeys that the save files were growing in size over time, leading to a bundle of recurring issues in the game. The new patch has squashed that bug.
  • The patch has also re-enabled the Larian Cloud savegames feature that lets players keep their game saves on the cloud. The cross-save feature has also been resumed ahead of the PS5 launch.
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 recently came out on August 3 for PC and shattered all expectations. A PS5 version will launch on September 6. Xbox Series X and Series S versions are also planned for the future.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has received a new tiny hotfix that takes care of one massive lingering issue that was not addressed in the major 2.0 update. The patch 2.1 fixes the cumbersome bug affecting save files because of its growing size. Larian Studios said that players were doing so much in their save files that it was growing the size on it, leading to a bundle of recurring issues in the game.

The devs have changed the file size limit to infinite, or at the very least as big as the available storage space on your device. The change was made to ensure that a particular size does not hinder file sizes in the expansive RPG.

As it turns out, many of you were doing so much in Baldur’s Gate 3 that some of your personal ‘story’ databases (where your choices and actions are stored) got too big. We now made the size infinite (or at least as infinite as you have storage space), to account for the sheer amount of things you’re all doing on your journeys.”

The other part of Baldur’s Gate 3 patch notes re-enables the Larian Cloud savegames feature. It was highly requested by players who like to store their game save files on the Cloud instead of storage devices to save additional space. The feature is to provide more comfort to users who are meddling with huge save files in the game. It is best to have another method of saving game files, though to be the safest in case the Cloud crashes.

The cross-saves feature has also been resumed in Baldur’s Gate 3 as the PlayStation 5 launch nears completion. The 2.0 hotfix, released a day or two ago, was quite substantial for the game and brought over 300 bug fixes and the ability to give gnomes their underwear back. With both hotfixes, the save fixes have become much more stable and will lead to even fewer crashes than reported in the past.

Larian Studios’ flagship AAA title has seemingly become the highest-rated title on the Metacritic site, gaining favor and prevalence among critics and casual players alike. It has even surpassed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in rating. The title quickly became the second most-played entry on Steam soon after release, flocking over 470,000 concurrent players. Since then, it has topped over 800,000 users playing together.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was officially released on August 3 for PC and reached critical acclaim. A PlayStation 5 version will launch on September 6. It is already the best-selling pre-order on the PlayStation platform right now. Xbox Series X and Series S versions are planned for later in the impending months to get the game working correctly on both Xbox consoles.
