Assassin’s Creed Mirage Has Just The Perfect Completion Time

Story Highlights

  • The producer of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Fabian Salamon has revealed that the game will only take about 20-24 hours to complete similar to older AC titles.
  • Completionists will need about 30 hours maximum while if you rush the game, you can finish it in 20 hours.
  • In addition, the producer also emphasized that the storytelling was a big part of the title and it will tie into Valhalla.

in a brand new interview with Julien Chièze, Assassin’s Creed Mirage producer Fabian Salamon revealed that the game would only take about 20-24 hours to beat on average. The title’s lead producer expanded on the game’s length around the 17:03 mark in the video below, saying completionists could finish the game in 30 hours max, while expert players could end it in just 20 hours.

In the interview (thanks to Access The Animus for the spot), Salamon uncovered this info about Assassin’s Creed Mirage while answering a question about the condensed nature of the game. The lead producer said that the studio carried out several playtests for the title and the latest ones put it around 20-24 hours on average for completion time.

We do a lot of playtests internally, it’s part of our process and we really want to get closer to the players. So in the last ones we received, we are on average around 20-23 hours 24 hours something like that. It can go up to 25-30 hours for completitions and we will say for those who rush the game it is going to be around 20 hours.”

Furthermore, Fabian Salamon also revealed that it would take completionists about 25-30 hours to finish Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is a massive step down from titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In the 2020 RPG, the main story alone took about 60 hours to complete on average. But, as the lead producer has revealed, you can complete Mirage in 20 hours if you rush it, making it three times less lengthy than Valhalla.

Therefore, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will have a completion time very similar to older games in the franchise like Unity and Black Flag, and not the most recent titles. Salamon also shed some light on the nature of the upcoming title in the interview, saying that Mirage was absolutely a single-player action-adventure game and not an open-world RPG like Valhalla or Odyssey.

However, according to the producer, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will tie into Valhalla as that is when the title’s protagonist, Basim, made his debut. Salamon went on to explain this decision by saying players don’t necessarily have to play the 2020 RPG and that Mirage will have an end for both Valhalla and non-Valhalla players. Therefore, it seems like the developer is putting emphasis on storytelling and the quotes reflect this:

The Storytelling is very important in the adventure. The idea is really to understand who Bassim is, how this character became a master assassin and also discover the richness of Baghdad. The historical context is super interesting and especially for us it was important to have a story that ends and that can also make the link with Basim in Valhalla for the fans who have played it. Now, for those who have not played Valhalla and don’t intend to play it, the story will also have an end so its this double approach that we wanted and you are right for us the story was part of the pillar.”

Even though the recent Assassin’s Creed titles have been successful, the franchise has received criticism for pivoting to longer games with massive open worlds instead of story-focused titles. For comparison, Valhalla’s main story takes a whopping 60 hours to complete while completionists have to spend at least 120 hours in the title. On the other hand, classic AC games like Black Flag only take about 24 hours to beat on average.

Hence, with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the franchise is going back to its roots and we hope we’ll see more games like it in the future. Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, Mirage comes out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC on October 12, 2023.
