Later, she learns that Griff is supposedly the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, Aegon, and the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. During this time, Tyrion indulges in one of his most evil manipulations.

During a game, Tyrion gets into young Aegon’s head. He convinces him not to side with Daenerys, but to launch his own invasion of Westeros, ostensibly to trap Aegon somehow. Tyrion starts a war in Westeros that threatens to kill thousands, apparently out of pettiness.

At the end of A dance with dragons, Varys personally assassinates Grand Maester Pycelle and Kevan Lannister. Two cold-blooded murders are bad, but their motives make them worse. They are both too competent to rule, and their better judgment threatens their plans. Varys is happy to let thousands die from misrule and war if it will keep Westeros vulnerable to conquest.
