my hero academia features a cast of exciting and lovable characters who are both superheroes and students, which means they still have a lot to learn. Pro heroes like All Might always win when fighting criminals and villains on the streets, but heroes in training are still discovering themselves as fighters and tend to lose more often.
These student heroes can make mistakes or suffer doubts that will cost them a fight, but it’s not always a disaster. Even if hero students sometimes fail exam battles at school, they can also surprise their teachers with sudden bursts of strength and creativity. When this happens, Izuku and his classmates are able to turn impending defeat into hard-won victory.
10/10 When Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo fought everyone
Izuku and his childhood friend Katsuki Bakugo had to battle their mutual idol, All Might, during the Teacher vs. Student Training arc in my hero academia. This was the last and most brutal of those ten fights, as All Might didn’t know how to hold back against his younger opponents.
Worst of all, Bakugo was fighting not only All Might, but Izuku as well, because he wanted the glory of winning solo. This lack of teamwork cost Bakugo and Izuku dearly and for a while seemed pointless. Bakugo then finally cooperated and gave Izuku a chance to claim victory for the team.
9/10 When Tsuyu and Fumikage fought the ectoplasm together
Another battle between teachers and students pitted the frog-like Tsuyu Asui and the creepy Fumikage Tokoyami against Ectoplasm, a hero who can clone himself. Tsuyu and Fumikage were able to destroy the Ectoplasm clones with their attacks, but were unable to defeat the real Ectoplasm or reach the gate.
Ectoplasm had both of his enemies on the ropes with his giant clone, and it seemed they couldn’t get away. Tsuyu then retrieved the special handcuffs from her stomach and Fumikage used Dark Shadow to secure those handcuffs in Ectoplasm. The two won at the last second.
8/10 When Minoru Mineta overtook Midnight and escaped
The pervert Minoru Mineta redeemed himself slightly when he summoned courage in a hopeless situation and found a way out. Minoru’s teammate, Hanta Sero, had already fallen victim to Midnight’s dream-based Quirk, and Minoru was soon cornered.
Minoru reminded himself what he fights for and goes all in on his last move. He secured Hanta’s headband over his nose and mouth, then ran past Midnight and used his own Quirk to trap her in his place. Minoru finally slipped through the gate and scored a bloodless victory against all odds.
7/10 When Momo’s team beat Saiko Intelli’s team
During the provisional hero license exam, Class 1-A was challenged like never before by facing off against students from other hero schools. The brilliant Momo Yaoyorozu faced her counterpart Saiko Intelli in one such battle, with Saiko launching a well-designed trap on Momo’s small team.
Saiko had all the advantages, including numbers, but Momo didn’t give up. Momo turned the tables on Saiko, and then the power of Momo’s team’s friendship allowed them to finish the job. Saiko mistakenly thought that Mezo and Tsuyu were being foolish in rescuing Momo, but she had to admit defeat.
6/10 When Shoto and Inasa fought Gang Orca to a standstill
Kuudere Shoto Todoroki faced off against his bitter rival, Inasa Yoarashi, in the provisional hero license exam. They continued to clash even when the pro hero Gang Orca came in as a fake villain in the test, and it turned out badly. Shoto and Inasa fell prey to Gang Orca’s Sonic Quirk and nearly lost.
With the last of their strength, Shoto and Inasa combined their Quirks to counterattack. They didn’t even have the strength to get up, but they could hold off Gang Orca with scorching winds to dry out his whale body. Shoto and Inasa did not win, but they also avoided certain defeat.
5/10 When Izuku protected Izumi Kota from Muscular
One of Izuku’s closest fights took place during the League of Villains’ vanguard raid on the forest training ground. The deadly villain Muscular cornered the defenseless Kota Izumi and threatened to kill him, only for Izuku to intervene and fight that villain for Kota’s life.
Izuku nearly lost, as he couldn’t overcome Muscular’s brute strength and stamina with his usual attacks. Izuku got the second wind of him when Kota verbally encouraged him, and Izuku performed an incredible 1,000,000% Smash to defeat Muscular and win the fight. However, Izuku was in no condition to fight other villains after that.
4/10 When Momo and Shoto faced Eraserhead in a mock match
The tsundere master Eraserhead personally battled Momo Yaoyorozu and Shoto Todoroki, both of whom rely heavily on their Quirks to fight. Momo was helpless without her quirk, and she was also plagued with self-doubt stemming from her weak performance at the AU sports festival.
Momo and Shoto got separated, and even Shoto was tied up and suspended from a great height. Finally, Shoto and Momo recovered, reunited, and struck back. They devised a clever plan to fool Eraserhead, then defeated him with a replica of his own capture tape.
3/10 When Izuku fought Overhaul to rescue Eri
Izuku’s most brutal fight pitted him against the masked villain Overhaul, who wielded a terrifying Quirk capable of reshaping all matter with a touch. Mirio Togata and Sir Nighteye had already fallen to Overhaul, and it seemed impossible for Izuku to win when they had failed.
Izuku was almost defeated, only for the young Eri to offer a solution. At great risk, Eri used her Rewind Quirk to constantly heal Izuku while he used One For All at 100% power. Even then, Izuku’s victory was narrow, and he could have easily died fighting for Eri.
2/10 When Kinoko Komori defeated Fumikage with spores
The petite dandere Kinoko Komori took everyone by surprise with her Quirk mushroom in the second fight of the joint training battle. Her team fought evenly against Momo’s, and at the last moment, Fumikage seemed ready to claim victory with her enormously powerful Quirk.
Then, Kinoko surprised everyone with her final attack. She used spores to form small mushrooms in Fumikage’s throat, incapacitating him at the last possible second. Kinoko didn’t stand a chance against Fumikage in a contest of strength, but his clever tactics and precise timing made up for it in victory.
1/10 When Izuku defeated Flect Turn
In the third my hero academia movie, Izuku fought an incredibly tough battle against Humarise’s leader, Flect Turn. Flect’s Quirk allowed him to redirect an enemy’s Quirk or energy directly at them, hence the villainous name for him, Flect Turn.
Izuku tried many times to force his way through Flect’s defenses with Smashes, only for Flect to hit Izuku with One For All’s redirected power. Izuku was beaten well past the point of giving up, but he held on, going Plus Ultra and in the end scoring a painfully close victory.
