Bad video game endings don’t usually happen in isolation. They tend to be the culmination of poor narrative decisions throughout the entire game. Unlikable characters, plot holes, or contrived writing that constantly builds up to the end can never be good. Bad endings often follow bad games.

However, this is not always the case. There are some great games that fall at the last hurdle. After a full game of compelling, moving storytelling, and good gameplay, the writers drop the ball at the last moment. However they do it, some games create a sweet experience that leaves a bitter aftertaste.

The choice, even existing, is based on the metaphysics of time travel poorly explained. after spending everything Life is strange getting closer to Chloe, many players feel that the choice is cruel for the sake of a sad ending. Instead, the game focuses its ending in the present, with Desmond Miles sacrificing himself to save humanity. Most players just don’t care about Desmond enough to get excited about this scene. He falls completely flat for many.

7/10 Fallout 3 ending needs DLC to fix it

fallout 3 it has such an infamous ending that it has DLC designed to revise it. At the end of the game, the Lone Wanderer fights his way to Project Purity. They are able to stop the Enclave from poisoning the Wasteland’s water. However, they have to enter a chamber filled with radiation to do so, which proves lethal.

For many gamers, killing the protagonist right at the end is a lazy way to close a game. fallout 3 however, it goes further. The player has many radiation-immune companions, all of whom refuse to do it for them. The player has to go in and die for literally no reason other than a soulful attempt.

6/10 Halo 2 doesn’t end; it just stops

In his plot, halo 2 it solves almost none of those things. The Arbiter stops Tartarus from firing Delta Halo, but that’s the only storyline that concludes the game. Everything else drifts towards halo 3. The game’s final scene with Master Chief vowing to end the fight is one of the most ridiculed in all of gaming.

5/10 Neverwinter Nights 2 Indulges Into A Hated D&D Trope

It is often considered the mark of a poor or frustrated Dungeon Master and is rarely a satisfying conclusion to a game. Neverwinter Nights 2 is very dear Dungeons and Dragons videogame.

Despite a mixed reception, Neverwinter Nights 2 liked for its faithful recreation of Third edition and its character customization. However, whatever a player does, there is no way to avoid death at the end. When the Shadow King dies, the temple collapses. Literal rocks fall, and the game ends with the protagonist dead for no reason.

4/10 Borderlands pulls out the rug at the last second

Compared to later games in the franchise, borderlands It doesn’t have much of a plot. It’s a very simple story about the player working to find and unlock the Vault. However, there’s still a genuine sense of hoarding and dread about what’s inside the Vault. His chances are hanging in front of the player throughout the game.

When the player reaches the end of borderlands, unlock the Vault. Instead of a treasure, a huge alien jumps out to fight a boss. After he dies, the Vault is sealed for another 200 years. It’s a bait and switch that comes out of nowhere and adds nothing to the game.

3/10 Mass Effect 3 gives you several colors of space magic to choose from

mass effect and its two sequels have one of the most beloved video game stories ever. Commander Shepard’s quest to unite the galaxy against the Reapers is one of the most compelling in all of gaming. It has elements of space opera, cosmic horror, cyberpunk, crime, romance, and more. The player shapes an entire galaxy over the course of three games.

The end of mass effect 3 it’s almost enough to wipe out all that goodwill. In the end, the player is given lame explanations about the game’s story, and then a simple, fixed decision. After a flexible series that accommodates thousands of options, none matter. The player has to unleash some kind of space magic on the galaxy. Little more than what they have done matters.

2/10 Nothing the player does matters in Far Cry 5.

far away 5 pits the player against Joseph Seed and his Eden’s Gate cult. After a long journey, they are given the choice to leave and let Seed live or continue fighting. No result leads to a victory. If the Deputy leaves, he activates his brainwashing and kills his allies.

However, the worst ending comes if the Deputy fights and takes down Seed. If they do, a nuclear war will break out all over the world. It creeps in throughout far away 5 but it has nothing to do with the actual plot of the game. The player has no way of achieving a good ending. They could also take the secret ending of the game early on and just refuse to get involved.

1/10 Deus Ex: Mankind Divided feels like half a story

Deus Ex human revolution it has some controversy with its ending, but it still feels like a complete story. its sequel, Deus Ex: Humanity Divided it fails to accomplish this feat. The game is considered to have the best gameplay of all God Ex, even in his end game, but his story is more divisive. Notably, almost nothing gets wrapped up in its ending.

Deus Ex human revolution it opens a lot of threads that don’t really progress anywhere. Adam Jensen manages to defeat Marchenko and the Human Restoration Act problem is solved. However, none of these feel particularly climactic. The game feels like it’s stopped in the middle, or like it’s the second part of a trilogy that leans too much on a future installment.
