10 Fantasy Villains Sauron Could Destroy

There are few fictional villains capable of rivaling the power and influence of the dark lord Sauron. The infamous antagonist of The Lord of the rings books and movies he was capable of powerful dark magic, telepathy, and shapeshifting. Over the course of several centuries, Sauron not only tricked and nearly defeated entire armies, but managed to survive beyond death and nearly destroy the world a second time.

Although Sauron was eventually defeated, his strength and power were nearly enough to destroy the kingdoms of elves, dwarves, and men in Middle-earth. Not only that, but he could do it without access to the ring, the true source of his power. It was Sauron’s pride and overconfidence that blinded him to his weaknesses. Even so, he could have taken down many fantasy villains from other franchises with his skills.

10/10 Voldemort’s horcruxes cannot rival the power of the One Ring

Lord Voldemort of the Harry Potter The franchise is certainly powerful. His magic rivals that of Dumbledore, who is considered the greatest wizard of his day. Voldemort’s interest in dark magic led him down a terrifying path that strengthened his abilities and split his soul into several pieces, preventing him from dying when attacked.

Although Voldemort might have been capable of threatening the world, his influence never went beyond that of the Wizarding World. His misunderstanding of magic and the survival nature of Harry Potter led to his downfall. While he might have been able to conquer the world, his ambitions couldn’t compare to the scale of Sauron.

9/10 Captain Davy Jones was powerful, but he could be manipulated

Davy Jones, the antagonist of pirates of the Caribbean, was as powerful as it was iconic. Inspired by the folklore legend of the same name, Jones was considered the ruler of the Seven Seas and Captain of the flying dutchman. He couldn’t die except when stabbed through the heart, which he kept locked in a chest, and he could navigate between the mortal world and the afterlife.

Despite Jones’ power, Lord Beckett manipulated him and forced him to do the bidding of others. He was scary, but he was still human, too, and his weaknesses were much easier to exploit than Sauron’s.

8/10 Maleficent’s powers were used for insignificant reasons

Although Maleficent was rewritten as a likeable protagonist in 2014 Pernicious film, she is still considered a fantasy villain. Her powers in the original. Sleeping Beauty the animated movie includes curses and the ability to transform into a dragon; in Perniciousshe also possesses a pair of wings.

Despite cursing Aurora and having the power and ambition to overthrow an entire kingdom, Maleficent’s abilities do not come close to those of Sauron. She is a powerful sorceress, but Sauron is a dark lord. Sauron sought to destroy armies and shroud the world in darkness, while Maleficent simply took revenge on a baby and instead maleficent version of the story, he ended up regretting it.

7/10 The Infinity Stones were dangerous even to Thanos

Thanos, the infamous infinity gauntlet wielder, was so powerful that he managed to wipe out half of all life in the universe. After defeating the Avengers, detailed in both the comics and the movie. Avengers: infinity warhe managed to gather the infinity stones and use their power without destroying himself.

While Thanos could certainly rival Sauron with such power, he’s also been reluctant to work with others. He had allies, but many deserted him or hindered him. While he might have been able to challenge Sauron, the infinity stones could only be used so many times before even Thanos could have been destroyed by them.

6/10 Hades failed too often to defeat Sauron

The image of the Greek god of the underworld, Hades, has been rewritten and used in various media. His interpretation in from Disney Hercules The film gave the character many traits from the original mythology, such as mastery over the souls of the undead and immortality, while adding some unique traits, such as flaming hair.

Although Hades was technically a god, his powers were limited to his own realm. Despite his intrigues and conspiracies, he was defeated by the demigod Hercules. This is arguably a result of the nature of animated movies, but Hades’ inability to succeed in most of his plans during the movie shows that he wouldn’t have been much of a challenge for Sauron.

5/10 Dr. Facilier bit off more than he could chew

The charismatic Dr. Facilier from the Princess and the Frog is one of Disney’s most beloved animated villains. His powers come from his “friends from the other side”, spiritual entities that grant magical abilities and curses to others through deals. Dr. Facilier seeks to entrap others and overthrow those in power through these negotiations.

While Dr. Facilier’s powers are terrifying, they are also extremely unpredictable and risky. Dr. Facilier is defeated by his own powers after Tiana destroys a magical necklace, the one used to curse Prince Naveen in the film. He was certainly a threat, but his powers and abilities were nowhere near that of the dark lord Sauron.

4/10 Dr. Eggman Wasn’t Evil Enough To Rival Sauron’s Cruelty

Whether it’s the comic version, the video game version, or the movie version, Dr. Eggman is a hilarious and surprisingly powerful fantasy villain from the sonic franchise. He supplies what he lacks in magical powers with wit and inventiveness; Dr. Eggman’s strengths come from his inventions and his armies of robots.

Despite constantly being defeated by Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman still manages to pose quite the threat to the world. He enslaved animals into robots, created weapons capable of destroying the moon, and accidentally awakened Old Gods. Despite this, most of Dr. Eggman’s successes are fairly coincidental, and Sauron’s malice would quickly outweigh Dr. Eggman’s more humorous approach to villainy.

3/10 Jafar was limited by the rules of the jinn

While Jafar was originally just a mortal, he eventually gained the magical powers and abilities of a genie during the film. Aladdin. Thanks to his intrigues and conspiracies, he became a genius and gained ridiculous power.

Jafar would have succeeded in his plans as well, had it not been for the specific limitations of being a genius. As a genie, Jafar was made subject to genie rules and was prevented from killing someone, making people fall in love, and resurrecting people. With these limitations, Jafar would be easily defeated by Sauron, who not only possessed the ability to break those rules, but had certainly done so throughout his reign.

2/10 Palpetine was defeated by his own ally

Darth Sidious, also known as Palpatine, is one of the most terrifying and intelligent villains in Star Wars. His patience, cunning, and ability to hide in plain sight split the galaxy and brought down an entire government. Darth Sidious’s ability to manipulate the Senate in his favor while hiding his true identity from nearly everyone allowed him to control every aspect of his rise to power from within.

Darth Sidious succeeded and ruled the galaxy for a while, similar to how Sauron ruled his own domain, but Darth Sidious’s downfall was his overconfidence. Darth Sidious died at the hands of his own ally, while Sauron made sure to remain the most powerful being in Middle-earth.

1/10 Even the immortal white witch needs a physical form

Apart from Aslan himself, Jadis the White Witch of the Chronicles of Narnia he is easily one of the most powerful figures in the world of Narnia. Not only was she present during the creation of the kingdom, but she was powerful enough to usurp the original royal family and establish an eternal winter.

The White Witch, despite her death under Aslan’s clutches during The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, was actually immortal. However, his existence required Adam’s blood to resurrect her, similar to how Sauron’s rebirth required the ring. While the White Witch was nearly powerless without a physical form, Sauron nearly conquered Middle-earth without even being in possession of the ring.
